The Transceiver Ase 211 is the main component of the wireless set TL / SE-210.

In 1935, Telefunken developed the 15 Watts transceiver SE469A resp. Stat 272 Bs which has been used by the German police forces.
The export variant for Switzerland carried the Telefunken designation Stat. 1002 Bs, the transceiver / Sendeempfänger Ase 211, Battery Case Spez 992 Bs and the pedal-operated generator have been produced by Telefunken in Zurich.
The wireless set "Tragbar Leicht" / TL has been introduced in the Swiss Army in 1935 - 1946, it's frequency coverage was 3 - 5 MHz.

A similar wireless set covering 2,0 - 3,33 MHz with Telefunken designation Stat. 1011 Bs consisting of Transceiver Ase 3017, Batteriy Case and pedal-operated generator has been in use with the Artillery as "TLA" and has been ordered in 1942 / 1944.

In 1951, the "TL" got the new designation SE-210 and the artillery set "TLA" the designation SE-211, they have been in use as standby transceivers into the sixities.

The wireless set got it's designation "Portable Light" because it was portable, at least four men were needed to carry the transceiver, the battery case, the mains power supply case, the accessories case and the collapsible antenna masts, 19 - 26,5 kg each of them had to carry. In the instructions, You find all necessary informations how to transport the wireless set on a horse's back or with a Canadian's sleigh.

Loosen the four screws marked red to pull out the chassis out of the case and to gain access to the back of the set.
Here, You find the valves (Transmitter: driver valve RS242, 2 RF output valves RS242, the modulation valve RE084, an amplifier valve RE084 and the VOX / locking valve RE084. Receiver: RF amplification valve RES094, oscillator / mixer valve RES094, two IF amplifier valves RES094, audion valve RE084 and AF output valve RE084) and sliding controls for fine adjustment of the filament voltage of 4 volts.

The wireless set has to be connected to the power supply, it is switched on with the mode switch "Telephony - OFF - Telegraphy", this switched is coupled to the volume control. The right meter will indicate the filament voltage, when the blue button is pressed, You can control the plate voltage, which should read between 120 - 180 V.
The typical main tuning knob is used to tune in the transmitting / receiving frequency. You can read the frequency directly off the frequency dial, this set is Telefunken's first set using a frequency calibrated dial. The small control "RECEPTION FINE TUNING" is used to shift the reception frequency within a +/- 10 - 30 kHz range. The tuning knob can be mechanically blocked for rapid switching between two operating frequencies, a very simple method of using two preset frequencies.
After connecting the antenna and earth, You can adjust the "ANTENNA TUNING" control for a maximum antenna current reading on the left meter when the transmitter is set to "Telegraphy" and the morse key is pressed.
In "Telephony" mode, the transceiver can be switched from receiving to transmitting mode by means of OFF/ON pushbuttons. When "SPRACHUMSCHALTUNG" (Voice Switching) is activated, the set will automatically transmit when You speak in the microphone. I was very surprised to find an automatic VOX circuit in a set dating from the thirties.
